Everyone has one tv chef they prefer above the others- whether for their personality or for the dishes they make. Lets look at afew of the UKs much loved TV chefs.

  • Gordon Ramsay. Famous for the show Hell’s kitchen -his temper is as fiery a a stove and as fowl as the chicken his contestants prepare. One of only 3 chefs in the UK to have 3 michelin stars for his resturants at the same time. Ramsay originally appeared on a documentary called boiling point, where he first became known to the public. Boiling point saw Gordon trying to achieve his 3rd Michelin star, and made him an overnight celebrity. His other shows are the F word, Ramsay’s kitchen nightmares and hells kitchen. ‘Hells kitchen’ and ‘kitchen nightmares’ have also been re-made over in America, where even they arent safe from the abuse.
  • Nigella Lawson. The daughter of MP Nigel Lawson, she is the author of the best selling ‘how to eat’, released in 1998 and appeared on TV with ‘Nigella bites’ which first showed in 2000. This show won her the Television Broadcast of the Year at the Guild of Food Writers Awards. Her sultry, sensual approach to cooking has also gone down well in America and gained her fans both male and female. As popular as her books and cooking tv shows are, her daytime chat show ‘Nigella’ lasted only a week and was pulled off the air after poor viewer numbers. Having sold over 3 million books in total on cooking, i think its safe to say she feels more at home writing than presenting.
  • Jamie Oliver. The ‘Naked chef’ was working as a ‘sous chef’ in Fulham by the BBC. His TV show the ‘Naked chef’ which gave him fame was followed by ‘Pukka Tukka’ and ‘Jamie’s Kitchen’. On tv in 2005 and it had the chefs own mission to get the quality of school dinners raised, which saw the government promise to put almost 300 million into school dinners over 3 years. Being the ‘mascot’ of Sainsburys has done well for him to, raking him in over £1.2 million a year. Adored by Britain for being just that- British: in his dishes and mannerisms, it might be the reason he hasnt seemed to have done as well overseas- though to his credit im not sure he cares.
