The year 2006 was really a banner year and the very best horror movies of 2006 list of horror movies, of which some used green screen backgrounds in green screen studios, that I provide here will be relatively controversial, however, these lists always are. The main reason nobody can agree with these lists is the fact that while several individuals consider all slasher motion pictures to be horror, some only think that supernatural elements make up the horror genre. We can’t be that particular so we will evaluate them all in the following compendium lest we hurt any sensitivities out there.
“Feast” directed by John Gulager was in fact released in the year 2005 but did not strike the cinemas until 2006. Featuring the typical zombies run amok plot, it goes off track easily and stays quite hard to bear. Really gory and terrifying and definitely a must see. Few great horror movies have been produced from amazing horror books but the very best of the gang are “The Exorcist” (original book by William Peter Blatty), “Carrie” (Stephen King), and “The Shining” (King once again).
Six girls get trapped inside an underground cave maze while spelunking and are chased by albino earth-dwelling creatures in this extremely frightening flick directed by Neil Marshall. The very best thing in regards to this movie is that they build the story and characters carefully so that we as as viewers get very involved with each person. We care about what happens to all of them and thus the frightening parts are even scarier.
“Hostel” is also in my top terror movies of 2006 list although it doesn’t have a supernatural element into it because it is greatly scary at times and often troubling. A team of backpackers going to Europe get attracted right into a hostel that has beautiful girls playing around in revealing clothes. They get kidnapped and placed as victims into a “torture club” for rich sickos. Definitely not for the children.
One more of the very best scary films 2006 is “Turistas” which lots of people hated but I loved, mainly because I have spent a lot of time in the jungles of Central America and can relate to the subject matter. Travelers getting robbed and set upon by the locals always makes for fantastic suspense cinema. Definitely not common “horror” but scary enough as a suspense movie. What what people mean about “horror” anyway? Does any person actually get mortified anymore? The most these types of motion pictures will do to normal jaded audiences is really a surprise once in a while that makes all of them jump out of their seat.
The last movie that was absolutely horrifying was “The Exorcist” which stayed with you long after you left the cinema. That feeling of dread which made you scared to sleep alone at night does not come along often. An additional motion picture that frightened me like that was “The Blair Witch Project” however I do know many people hated it and even got sick watching the moving camera shots. “Paranormal Activity” was just like Blair Witch, with lots of hand held camera parts although not quite as numerous as in Blair Witch or Cloverfield.
Grab the popcorn and gummy bears. The perfect time to get fearful!
